What a tremendous amount of great work got done this weekend at the work party! Thanks so much to the dedicated members and local enthusiasts who came out to help us improve the track.
Several projects were undertaken this weekend. One of the most exciting was the building of a new mini-track for the kids which was spearheaded by Ryan Bradley of 'Bradley Excavating' and assisted by the boys from 'Talboy Contracting'.

Craig Weme and his son Stephen showed up from 'Craig's Bobcat' and went to work laying pipe to help drainage in some of the track's swampy, low-lying areas. This could be the best thing to happen for the track itself in a long time. Most of the track is in fantastic shape already this season, if we can get a few low areas to drain better the track will be mint!

New members Dave and Angie Martell also showed up with a Bobcat. Dave worked with Frank Syrotuck on the starting gate area and filled puddles on the track while their wives planted flowers, pulled weeds, and generally made the site a more beautiful place. Also in attendance were the Scheres and Johnson families who made the trek over from Saltspring Island along with the Bradleys.

NMA is so grateful to all the people who came out to make the track better this weekend. This is the beauty of a volunteer non-profit track...the members have the power to make the track as good as they want to make it! The Wastelands is a National caliber track, and with the kind of support we saw this weekend the track executive hope we can provide a top flight track day in and day out for its members. We are in the process of devising a maintenance program that will keep the track at its best throughout the summer. Stay posted to find out how you can help!!
    Thanks again!

The Vancouver Island Motocross Association (VIMX) and its member clubs Nanaimo, Campbell River and Alberni Motocross Associations, along with CMRC, are proud to announce the Island Event Schedule for 2012. The schedule includes a primary 9 round VIMX Championship Series and a shorter 5 round VIMX Club Series. Given the general preference to avoid double-headers and include more practice days, each race weekend (except Nanaimo Round 6/National Amateur Day) has a Practice Day on Saturday and racing on Sunday. VIMX is pleased to include TriPort Motorbike and ATV Club in our Championship Series as a VIMX associate club. VIMX made significant efforts to include Westshore MX in the Island race schedule this year. This included negotiating with CMRC for the inclusion of a non-CMRC sanctioned track, insurance provision, and first-time free CMRC racing licenses. Unfortunately Westshore MX declined to work with VIMX/CMRC or participate in the Island race series. However the "First Time Free" license offer will still be available at some of our races to riders who have never had a CMRC license.

VIMX is also extremely excited that CMRC chose Nanaimo Wastelands to kick off the 9 round Monster Energy Motocross Nationals Series this year on Sunday, June 3rd. Like last year, the Nationals Amateur Day on Saturday, June 2nd will also be Round 6 of our Championship Series. See the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals Schedule page on the www.vimx.ca website for the complete series schedule.

VIMX has included our fellow CMRC/BCMA Mainland riders on this announcement as we'd like to invite you to come race some of our Island events. We're working on providing some incentives to Mainland riders to help encourage you to make the trip and ride with us – to be announced shortly. We also encourage our Island riders to attend some of the BCMA Mainland events, including the planned BCMA Pro Am Championship in Kamloops currently scheduled for August 31st through September 2nd. See the BCMA and BCMA South websites for Mainland schedules.

For more details about VIMX and CMRC see the  About VIMX page on the www.vimx.ca website.

The VIMX member tracks are also planning many other events throughout the year including open houses, riding schools, evening racing and Endurocross races. Once events and dates are finalized they will be posted on the VIMX and individual club websites.

It takes an enormous amount of time and effort to plan, promote, organize and run motocross race series and other events in the regions.  We want to thank in advance all the people that take precious time from their already busy lives so that we can all enjoy our great sport. Please remember to actively support these volunteers and consider helping out if you can at the region level, clubs and/or races. We're all looking forward to another fun and exciting season of riding and racing on the Island and abroad.

    Hey Everyone,

NMA desperately needs a new secretary for our club! We generally meet in Duncan and have a great crew running the club this year. The position comes with a free membership to the club, and a laptop computer! That's right, you get a laptop to take home with you after you have taken our minutes! What other volunteer job offers these kinds of perks!! If you can afford one evening a month, and a tiny bit of homework please contact us, or come out to our next meeting on Feb. 8th! Look forward to hearing from you!
